173 Flights Into Marsa Alam This Week, and Hotels Expect 85-90% Occupancy

Marsa Alam took in about 173 tourist flights from around the world this week, enough to lift the city's hotel occupancy to between 85 and 90 percent, according to Rami Fayez, head of the city's tourism marketing committee, speaking to Al-Watan.

Most of the arrivals at present come from Europe, he said, particularly Germany, Czechia, Poland and Italy. Europe sent more visitors to the city than any other continent over the first eight months of the year, and Germans were the most numerous through this summer.

Demand for the winter season, which runs from 1 October to the end of April 2027, is very good and mostly European, Fayez said.

In a second set of comments, Fayez - who also sits on the board of the Hotel Establishments Chamber within the Egyptian Federation of Tourism Chambers - said current and forward bookings point to arrivals in Marsa Alam rising 10 to 15 percent in the last quarter of 2026 against the same period last year, with a good number of foreign tour operators having decided to run flights to the city over those three months.

Italian traffic between October and December should be strong on current demand, he said, noting that Italy is Marsa Alam's fourth-largest source market so far this year.

He expects the increase across the coast's tourist towns - Hurghada, Marsa Alam, El Gouna, El Quseir, Sahl Hasheesh, Soma Bay and Safaga - to bring average hotel occupancy for the governorate above 85 percent in the final quarter.

The figures are one industry representative's, not an official count, and the reports give no breakdown of the 173 flights by origin or airline.
