What you can expect from this site, and what we ask in return.

What this site is

Red Sea Updates is an independent English-language news and guide service for Egypt's Red Sea coast, from El Gouna to Marsa Alam. We are not affiliated with any government body, tourism authority, hotel group or tour operator.

Information, not advice

Everything here is published in good faith and checked before it goes out, but it is general information, not professional advice. Nothing on this site is medical, legal, immigration, diving-safety or financial advice.

This matters most on the practical pages. Visa rules, emergency numbers, chamber availability and transport schedules change without notice, and we date every reference page so you can see how fresh it is. Before you rely on something that affects your safety or your entry into the country, confirm it with the official source we link to.

The directory

Directory listings are compiled from open data — chiefly OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, used under the Open Database Licence — and checked by the desk as the directory is verified. A listing is a record that a place exists, not an endorsement of it, and being listed costs nothing.

Details can be out of date, and a phone number or opening hours can be wrong. If a listing is yours you can claim it — we will verify you, fix what we got wrong, and check with you before changing it. If you want a listing removed entirely, email us and we will remove it; we will not make you argue for it.

Photographs and content

Photographs are either ours, or freely licensed work used under the terms of that licence with the photographer credited beside the image. We do not use copyrighted news photography, images lifted from community groups, or private screenshots. If you believe something here infringes your copyright, tell us what and where and we will take it down while we look into it.

Our own words and layout are ours. Quote us, link to us, forward us — that is what this is for. Republishing whole articles is not on; ask instead, and the answer is usually yes.

What you send us

When you send a tip, an event, a press release or a listing claim, you confirm you are entitled to share it and give us permission to publish or act on it editorially. We decide what runs. We do not publish tips that we cannot stand behind, and we protect the identity of whoever sent them.

Links out

We link to official sources, businesses and other sites because a claim you cannot check is not worth much. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for what they publish or do.

Availability and liability

We do not promise the site is always available or always error-free. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from relying on it — which is the ordinary position for a free information service, and the reason the paragraph above about confirming safety-critical facts is there.

Corrections and contact

If we got something wrong, tell us and we will fix it and say that we did — see the corrections policy. For anything else: hello@hurghada.news.
