Privacy

You can read the site without subscribing or giving us your contact details. We do not set advertising cookies, use cross-site trackers or sell your data to data brokers. We store information you deliberately send us, such as newsletter subscriptions and submissions.

Where enabled, Plausible measures aggregate page views, referrers, campaign sources, general device/country information, page language and selected actions such as share-button clicks, newsletter-form submissions, browser-observed subscription confirmations or advertising-contact clicks. It sets no cookies and creates no profile that follows you between websites. We do not send email addresses, form contents or private link tokens to Plausible. The confirmation event contains only the selected edition and a fixed public newsletter URL; it excludes the confirmation link and can be missed when scripts or network requests are blocked. Confirmed audience and collected revenue are checked against our own records; a form submission is not a confirmed subscription. We do not run Google Analytics or advertising tags.

We count link and share-button activity without creating reader profiles. Outbound links on our /links page and elsewhere go through a redirect that records which link was clicked and when. Article share buttons record the button action and selected network; they cannot confirm that you sent a message or completed a post. These counts do not create a reader profile or set cookies. The separate deduplication marker used for article share counts is described below.

If you subscribe we store your email address, the date, and which page you subscribed from, so we can send the brief and know what is working. We use Resendto deliver it. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops newsletter sends; it does not automatically erase your record. We retain unsubscribe, consent and delivery records to respect your choice, document consent and handle delivery problems.

When you claim a listing or send the desk a tip, an event or a press release, we store what you typed — including your name, email and phone number if you give them — so we can verify you and reply. We use it for that and nothing else.

Source protection is a rule here, not a courtesy: if you send us something as a tip, your identity and the private channel it came through stay in our internal notes and are never published without your explicit say-so. That applies to WhatsApp screenshots and community-group messages too.

The “most forwarded” module counts article share-button actions. To stop one person inflating a count we store a salted, one-way hash of (IP address, article, day) — not the address itself. These markers are used to limit duplicate counts and are periodically removed. We do not know who clicked or whether they completed the share.

Some directory photographs are freely licensed images served from Wikimedia Commons or Flickr, and displaying one means your browser requests it from that host, which sees your IP address as it would for any image on the web. Their privacy policies govern that request. We reference the file rather than copying it so the photographer keeps the credit and the traffic their licence entitles them to.

The public site and its media run on Cloudflare. The PostgreSQL database remains with Neon through Netlify; Netlify also retains a recovery copy of the site and independent automation monitoring. These providers process data on our instructions. Nothing is sold, rented, or shared for advertising.

Ask us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it — including everything tied to a listing claim or a newsletter subscription. Email support@hurghada.news. If you are in the UK or EU you have these rights under the UK GDPR and GDPR; you do not need to cite them for us to act, and we will not ask you why.

Getting a fact wrong is a different problem with a different fix — that goes to corrections.

This is a general-audience news site. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will change the date at the top and say what changed. This update adds browser-observed newsletter confirmations to the analytics description; our consent records remain authoritative.
