Privacy

We do not set advertising cookies, we do not run cross-site trackers, and we do not sell or share your data with data brokers. You can read the whole site without giving us anything. The only personal data we hold is what you deliberately send us — an email address for the newsletter, or your details when you claim a business listing.

When analytics are enabled we use Plausible, which is cookieless and does not build a profile of you across sites or sessions. It records aggregate page views, referrer and rough country — never an identifier that points back to a person. There is nothing to opt out of because there is nothing following you around.

If you subscribe we store your email address, the date, and which page you subscribed from, so we can send the brief and know what is working. We use Resend to deliver it. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you — it does not move you to a quieter list.

When you claim a listing or send the desk a tip, an event or a press release, we store what you typed — including your name, email and phone number if you give them — so we can verify you and reply. We use it for that and nothing else.

Source protection is a rule here, not a courtesy: if you send us something as a tip, your identity and the private channel it came through stay in our internal notes and are never published without your explicit say-so. That applies to WhatsApp screenshots and community-group messages too.

The “most forwarded” module counts how often articles are shared. To stop one person inflating a count we store a salted, one-way hash of (IP address, article, day) — not the address itself. The hash cannot be reversed into an IP, it is only ever compared against itself, and the markers are pruned. We do not know who shared anything; we only know that something was shared.

Some directory photographs are freely licensed images served from Wikimedia Commons or Flickr, and displaying one means your browser requests it from that host, which sees your IP address as it would for any image on the web. Their privacy policies govern that request. We reference the file rather than copying it so the photographer keeps the credit and the traffic their licence entitles them to.

The site runs on Netlify and the database is hosted by Neon. Both are processors acting on our instructions. Nothing is sold, rented, or shared for advertising.

Ask us and we will tell you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it — including everything tied to a listing claim or a newsletter subscription. Email hello@hurghada.news. If you are in the UK or EU you have these rights under the UK GDPR and GDPR; you do not need to cite them for us to act, and we will not ask you why.

Getting a fact wrong is a different problem with a different fix — that goes to corrections.

This is a general-audience news site. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we will change the date at the top and say what changed. We will not quietly widen it.
