Fire coral
- Looks like
- — Mustard-brown to yellow, smooth-surfaced, often in flat blades or branching shapes with pale tips
- Risk
- — A burning sting on contact that can last hours, and often blisters. The commonest sting on this coast by a wide margin.
- Avoiding it
- — Do not brace, kneel or steady yourself on anything. It looks like coral because it grows among coral — the pale tips are the tell.
