Dive sites

Elsewhere in the guide

The named sites along this coast, written the way you would want them described before you book: how you get there, what the conditions actually demand, what you can reasonably expect to see, and who each site is not suitable for. Last reviewed 1 August 2026.

Before anything else

Diving emergencies do not go to a normal hospital — a suspected decompression injury needs a recompression chamber. The chamber locations and the DAN hotline are on our emergency contacts page. Check them before your first dive, not after. Emergency contacts

All thirteen, side by side

Of the 13 sites here, 4 can only be reached by liveaboard — they sit 60 to 90km offshore and no day boat goes to them — and 3 are open to a newly qualified diver. That is worth knowing before a week is booked around a name from a magazine.

Advanced — experience genuinely required

Several of these need a liveaboard

The Brothers, Daedalus, St John’s and Rocky Island cannot be reached from a hotel, and the Thistlegorm is a routine stop on a boat rather than a punishing day trip. Liveaboards
