Learning? Soma Bay for space and flat water, Mangroovy for schools and a scene. Strong wind and value? Safaga. On a budget or already staying in the city? Hurghada, but choose the centre carefully — wind quality varies more there than anywhere else on the coast.

Mangroovy Beach

Egypt’s best-known kite beach and the centre of the country’s kite scene — consistent side-onshore wind, a big shallow area, and a lot of other people.

Soma Bay lagoon

An enormous shallow flat-water lagoon on a private peninsula — arguably the best learning water in Egypt, and very quiet.

Safaga and Tobia island

The coast’s original wind destination — flat water in the lee of a long headland and Tobia island, at prices from a different decade.

Makadi Bay

Makadi · Flat to choppy · Improver

A smaller, calmer alternative to the big spots — fine for learning and for a hotel-based week, not a destination in itself.

Hurghada

Hurghada · Choppy · Improver

Wind, schools and cheap lessons in and around the city — less refined than El Gouna, considerably cheaper, and more variable.
