Soma Bay lagoon
An enormous shallow flat-water lagoon on a private peninsula — arguably the best learning water in Egypt, and very quiet.

- Reliable roughly April to September; usable but lighter through winter.

- North to north-west, mostly side-shore across the lagoon.
- Launch
- A long shallow sandbank you can walk out on for hundreds of metres. Access is generally through the hotels on the peninsula.
The sandbank at Soma Bay produces a lagoon that is shallow, flat and very large. For learning it is close to ideal: you can stand up almost anywhere, the water is calm, and even with several stations now working it — 7Bft, KBC Ras Soma, Surfmotion, Tornado — it never feels like Mangroovy.
Experienced riders sometimes find it dull for exactly the same reasons — nothing to hit, nothing to jump off, and not much of a scene beyond the 7Bft beach bar. If you want progression and quiet, it is superb. If you want company, El Gouna is better.

- Learning, without the crowds of El Gouna
- Flat-water freestyle
- Anyone who wants space — far quieter than El Gouna, even with several stations now sharing the lagoon
Hazards
- Almost nothing, which is the point. The main risk is how far downwind you can drift on flat water before noticing.
- Access usually depends on where you are staying; this is not a public beach in the way Mangroovy is.
