The Red Sea Governorate's General Directorate for Environmental Affairs has made an extended inspection visit to the tree forest at Hurghada to check the site's environmental condition, record the problems there and look at ways of resolving them, the Egyptian outlet Dar Al-Maaref reported.

During the tour the committee inspected 50 feddans, about 21 hectares, of land belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture's Central Administration for Afforestation that has recently been planted with eucalyptus trees. The committee assessed the environmental condition of the plot and checked that the work was being carried out to the applicable standards.

The visit was led by the director general of environmental affairs, Dr Mohamed Abdel Wahab Sedik, and the director general of the agriculture directorate, Eng. Mahmoud Abdel Aty, and a representative of the drinking water and sanitation company took part. The committee closed the visit by stressing continued coordination between the bodies involved to clear any environmental obstacles at the site.

The report does not say when the visit took place, when the eucalyptus was planted, or which environmental problems the committee recorded.
