53,000 Tonnes of Phosphate Shipped From Safaga Port to Vietnam

53,000 tonnes of phosphate have been exported to Vietnam through Safaga port, the trade outlet Aswaq Information reported on 31 August.

The report gives the tonnage and the destination and little else. It does not name the exporting company, the vessel or the loading dates, does not put a value on the cargo, and does not say whether the shipment is part of a longer-term supply contract or a one-off sale.

Phosphate is a recurring part of Safaga's cargo traffic. This site reported earlier in the summer that the port had taken in 31,500 tonnes of aluminium and shipped 40,500 tonnes of phosphate to Indonesia — a comparable movement of the same commodity to a different Asian buyer.

Safaga is the working port of this stretch of coast, handling bulk cargo alongside the tourism that shapes Hurghada and the resort towns to the south. Published cargo volumes are one of the few public indicators of how busy the quays — and the jobs tied to them — actually are.
