Air Cairo Flies Its First Hurghada–Jeddah Umrah Service

Air Cairo has operated the first of its flights from Hurghada International Airport to Jeddah carrying Umrah pilgrims, according to Youm7.

The outlet describes the flight as the launch of the carrier's Umrah services from Hurghada rather than a one-off charter. Its report, carried on 3 September, does not give the frequency of the flights, the aircraft type, the number of passengers on board, or the fare.

The route matters beyond the pilgrims who use it. Hurghada International is the Red Sea coast's main gateway, and its traffic is overwhelmingly inbound leisure — European charter and scheduled services feeding the resort strip from El Gouna down to Soma Bay. Flights that carry residents of the coast outward, rather than tourists inward, are comparatively rare, and a direct link to Jeddah removes the need to connect through Cairo.

Several things the report leaves open:

• whether the Jeddah flights will continue outside the Umrah season
• whether seats will be sold to general travellers as well as pilgrimage groups
• how the service fits Air Cairo's wider network from Hurghada

This site has reported that Hurghada Airport handled 18,200 flights over the summer, up 5.2 percent on the year before, and that Menzies Aviation opened a third Pearl Lounge in the terminal. A new Saudi destination adds to a year in which the airport has been gaining both capacity and services.

For residents of Hurghada, Safaga and the towns to the south, the immediate benefit is a shorter journey to Mecca. For the airport, it is another destination on a route map that has been widening through 2026.
