Building Work Halted in Hurghada and Enforcement Steps in El Quseir as Violation Crackdown Continues

Work has been stopped on a building plot in Hurghada's Al-Hijaz subdivision after inspectors found violations of the approved structural elements and construction encroaching on the plot's required open space, Cairo 24 reported on 7 September.

Separately, Ahram Gate reported the same day on what it described as decisive action in El Quseir to curb building violations, publishing photographs from the enforcement effort.

What the reports do not give:

• the owner or contractor of the Hurghada plot, or the number of storeys involved
• what penalty follows the stop-work order
• how many properties the El Quseir action covered

The 'open-space ratio' is the share of a plot that must be left unbuilt under the approved licence. Building into it is among the most common violations on this coast, because that setback is what keeps light, air and access between blocks in neighbourhoods laid out for lower density than they now carry.

The two items are the latest in a run of enforcement across the governorate. Hurghada News has reported on the removal of 28 unlicensed buildings in Hurghada's Magawish area, on the clearing of 17 pavement encroachments on El Pasha Street, and on an excavator impounded over unpermitted demolition work.

For residents, a stop-work order is the visible end of a licensing regime that otherwise operates out of sight. For visitors, these campaigns are part of why building sites in and around resort districts sometimes stand idle for stretches at a time.
