Cuba Holds Second Meeting for Its Nationals Living in Hurghada

Cuba's embassy in Egypt held a second meeting for Cuban nationals living in Hurghada on 20 July, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry's missions website.

Ambassador Alexander Pellicer and First Secretary Odalys Capote hosted the gathering. The ministry said the discussion centred on consular matters: the services the embassy provides to its nationals, and the immigration rules and regulations set by the Egyptian authorities.

Those attending put questions and concerns about immigration to the diplomats and thanked the embassy for the initiative, which the ministry said gave them the chance to deal directly with Cuba's representatives.

The day before the meeting, the embassy ran a mobile consular service in the city. According to the ministry, Cubans came to it for passport paperwork, criminal-record certificates and a wedding.

The ministry said the Cuban community in Egypt has grown considerably in recent years, and that the great majority of its members work in the culture and entertainment sectors at hotels in Hurghada, a Red Sea tourist hub it places about 450 kilometres from Cairo.

The embassy also briefed the community on what it called the difficult situation Cuba faces because of the intensification of the blockade, and the oil embargo in particular.

The first such meeting in Hurghada was held on 27 May 2025, also hosted by Pellicer and Capote, the ministry's website records.
