Czech Couple Exchange Wedding Rings Underwater Off Hurghada, Among a Run of Red Sea Weddings and Proposals

A Czech couple started their wedding on a boat off Hurghada and finished it on the sea bed in diving gear — one of several proposals and weddings that tourists have staged on this coast in recent weeks, according to Youm7.

A Czech couple began their wedding aboard a tourist boat off Hurghada, then went into the water in their wedding clothes, wearing diving gear, to exchange rings on the sea bed in front of divers and other tourists, Youm7 reports.

The underwater ceremony is one of several proposals and weddings the newspaper says tourists of different nationalities have staged on the Red Sea coast in recent weeks, choosing Hurghada and Marsa Alam for the moment rather than home. Youm7 lists, among them:

  • A Romanian visitor, Alberto, who proposed to his partner Denisa during a sunset safari in the Wadi Ar'ir area, near the Wadi El Gemal desert in Marsa Alam
  • A German visitor, David, who proposed to his partner Lisa on a safari into the mountains behind the coast, after arranging the surprise in advance with the excursion organisers
  • The Czech couple, Jaroslav and Polina, who married aboard a boat off Hurghada and exchanged their rings underwater
  • A Russian couple, Nikita and Anna, who married at a hotel in the north of Hurghada, arriving at Hurghada airport already in their wedding clothes before a beach photo session, live entertainment and a dinner
  • A further couple in Marsa Alam, one of them named as Jasmine, who were presented with the engagement ring at their hotel

The report does not say how many weddings or proposals the coast hosts in a season, which hotels, dive centres or safari companies ran these, or what any of it cost.

For the hotels, dive boats and safari operators along the coast, this is a line of business built on the reefs and mountains that are already here. For visitors, the practical detail in the report is that these moments are arranged with the operators rather than improvised: the German couple's sunset surprise was coordinated in advance with the people running the trip.
