Damaged Section of the Al-Ahyaa Road North of Hurghada Repaired, Ahram Reports

A damaged site on the Al-Ahyaa road north of Hurghada has been repaired, the state-owned Ahram Gate reported on 5 September, publishing photographs of the completed work.

The report is short, and several basic questions are left open:

• what caused the damage
• when it was first reported
• how long the affected stretch was
• what the repair cost, and which authority or contractor carried it out

The road running north out of Hurghada is the main land link between the city, the settlement of Al-Ahyaa and Ras Ghareb, and onward to Suez and Cairo. It carries intercity buses, freight and long-distance transfers, and there is no parallel route along that stretch of coast — so a single damaged section affects everything moving north.

The state of the coast's roads has been a recurring subject in our coverage. Hurghada News reported this week that the Roads and Bridges Authority denied the Qift–El Quseir road was in poor condition and said its upgrade was running to schedule, and that the Red Sea Governorate has set new controls on heavy transport.

For residents of Al-Ahyaa and for drivers heading north, the repair removes an obstacle on a road with no alternative. For visitors the relevance is indirect but real: coach journeys between Hurghada and Cairo or Suez run along this corridor. What the report does not offer is any indication of whether further stretches are scheduled for work.
