Eight New Pumping Stations to Bring Sewers to Hurghada Areas That Have Never Had Them

New drinking-water networks are being laid across 12 areas of Hurghada and eight sewage pumping stations are being built to reach neighbourhoods that have never been connected to the city's drainage, according to Youm7.
The Arabic outlet lists the works as part of a wider programme to raise the capacity of Hurghada's water and wastewater services. Alongside the new networks, existing water mains in several districts are being upgraded.
Two of the larger items are expansions of plants already running:
- The Al-Yusr desalination plant, being expanded to a production capacity of 40,000 cubic metres a day.
- Hurghada's tertiary wastewater treatment plant, being expanded to 90,000 cubic metres a day.
On the sewerage side, Youm7 says the work covers areas of Hurghada currently without the service, through eight lift stations together with gravity networks and force mains — extending drainage to parts of the city it has not reached before.
Youm7 gives no cost for any part of the programme, names no contractor, and sets no completion dates, so it is not clear when households in the 12 areas will actually be connected.
The works land in a busy period for water infrastructure on this coast. A 19-million-pound network is currently being laid to connect homes in Taqsim Al-Nour to mains drinking water, and new desalination plants are planned for Hurghada and Zafarana alongside four more in Safaga, El Quseir, Marsa Alam and Ras Ghareb.
