Field Surveys Start 6 October to Decide Which Hurghada Roads Get Repaved First
Red Sea Governor Walid El-Barqi has issued three executive decisions on Hurghada's road network, putting the governorate's roads department in direct charge of paving work and sending a four-body committee out to survey streets from 6 October. No street list, cost or start date has been published.

Field surveys of Hurghada's streets begin on 6 October to decide which roads are repaved first, after Red Sea Governor Walid El-Barqi issued three executive decisions on the city's road network, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm.
El-Barqi ruled that the governorate's roads department will take direct charge of supervising paving work and following it in the field, in coordination with the other bodies involved. The governorate says the point is to match the work to actual need and traffic priorities rather than to desk estimates.
He also ordered a joint committee formed from four bodies, which begins its survey work the day after the meeting:
- the Hurghada city local unit
- the Traffic Department
- the governorate's roads department
- the Projects Department
The committee is to list the roads targeted for paving, prepare estimated costings, and rank priorities by the actual condition of each road, the density of traffic on it, and the importance of each axis. El-Barqi said measurements of road lengths and surface areas, plus a study of traffic flow, manoeuvres and directions of travel, must come before any paving is approved.
The governor also required all bodies to coordinate before work starts, so that paving does not clash with existing utilities or with plans to re-organise traffic routes — and said resurfacing should form part of an integrated plan for the road network rather than a set of separate efficiency jobs. The surveys are a step towards signing a cooperation protocol between the governorate and the roads department, after which implementation is to begin.
What the report does not give: which streets are on the list, what the programme will cost, where the money comes from, or when resurfacing actually starts. The sequencing matters locally. This site reported days ago that Hurghada's one-way traffic trial had been paused and the old directions restored — and the governor is now explicitly tying paving decisions to the traffic re-planning that follows.
