A fire broke out on the roof of a building in the Mamsha tourist promenade area south of Hurghada on Saturday evening and was brought under control before it reached guest rooms, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm and Youm7.
Both outlets report that hotel staff dealt with the flames in the early stages. Civil protection sent fire engines to the scene, senior security officers went to the site to follow the situation, and ambulances were dispatched as a precaution. Youm7 reports that nobody was injured. Al-Masry Al-Youm says that at the time of writing there was no confirmed information about injuries or about the scale of the damage.
The two accounts differ on the building itself. Al-Masry Al-Youm describes the roof of a tourist hotel in the Mamsha area; Youm7 describes a building under construction in the same area, while its own account also refers to hotel workers and to guest rooms. Neither outlet names the hotel.
After the fire was out, a report was filed and the relevant authorities were notified to begin investigating the cause, Youm7 reports. Civil protection crews remained at the scene to confirm the fire was out, secure the location and prevent it reigniting, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm, and steps were taken to stop the flames spreading to neighbouring buildings.
What neither report gives: the name of the hotel, what started the fire, whether any guests were moved out of their rooms, or the value of the damage.
For anyone staying on that stretch of the coast, what has been reported so far is a fire held to a roof, staff acting before the fire service arrived, and no injuries reported. The cause has still to be established.
