Hurghada Airport Handled 2.13 Million Passengers in Two Months — Nearly Half a Million More Than Sharm el-Sheikh

Hurghada International Airport handled about 2,131,400 passengers in August and September 2026, up 122,553 on the same two months last year — a rise of 6.1 percent, according to Civil Aviation Ministry figures reported by Masrawy.
That is close to half a million more than Sharm el-Sheikh International, which handled 1,638,499 passengers over the same period, an increase of 95,497, or 6.2 percent.
Between them the two Red Sea resort airports accounted for 74 percent of all passengers moving through Egypt's regional airports, Ahram Online reported. Those airports handled 5,110,629 passengers in August and September, 4.8 percent more than in the same period of 2025 — meaning the two resort gateways grew faster than the regional network as a whole.
Masrawy said the figures point to continued tourism activity and rising travel to Egyptian destinations, and described the two airports as the main arrival points for inbound tourism.
For anyone flying in, the numbers describe the tail end of the summer season rather than the winter peak now beginning: Hurghada News reported this week that October bookings in Hurghada are running ahead of September and that Christmas reservations are already in. Neither report gave a breakdown by airline or source market, nor a figure for aircraft movements as opposed to passenger numbers.
