Hurghada Airport Handled 8.76 Million Passengers in Nine Months, Nearly Two Million More Than Sharm el-Sheikh

Hurghada International took 8,764,968 passengers from January to the end of September, 6 percent more than a year earlier — the largest figure among the airports named in the Egyptian Airports Company's nine-month statement.

Egypt's airports handled 20,846,939 passengers between January and the end of September 2026, 3 percent more than in the same period of 2025, according to Egyptian Airports Company figures reported by Veto.

Hurghada International accounts for the largest share of any airport named in the statement: 8,764,968 passengers, up 6 percent on last year. That is nearly two million more than Sharm el-Sheikh International, which handled 6,779,989 passengers, a rise of 4 percent.

Luxor International recorded 1,049,881 passengers, up 8 percent. Among the smaller airports, Abu Simbel grew 51 percent to 105,057 passengers and El Alamein by more than 30 percent to 193,517.

Wael El-Nashar, chairman and chief executive of the Egyptian Airports Company, said the continued growth reflected the appeal of Egyptian destinations and the variety of tourism on offer, and that the company was still working on airport development and passenger services to keep pace with expected increases in air and inbound tourist traffic.

The figures cover the company's airports and do not include Cairo. We reported earlier this month that Hurghada's two-month total stood at 2.13 million passengers, also ahead of Sharm el-Sheikh.
