Hurghada Language School Emptied After Fire in Its Book Store, With No Injuries

Civil Protection crews put out a fire in a school-book storeroom at Al-Mina Experimental Language School in Hurghada on Sunday morning, and the building was emptied of pupils as a precaution, with no injuries reported, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Cairo24 and Youm7.

Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that the alarm came from the ground floor of the four-storey school on Schools Street, where school books are kept. Two fire engines were sent, the fire was brought fully under control before it could spread to the rest of the building, and all pupils were taken out while crews worked. No one was taken to hospital.

Alaa Hassan, director of the Hurghada Educational Administration, said the fire had been completely contained and that there were no injuries among pupils or staff, Cairo24 and Youm7 reported.

He added that the storeroom sits well away from the classrooms, which is why teaching was not interrupted: the school day carried on as normal.

A report has been filed and the relevant authorities notified to establish how the fire started, the three outlets said.

None of them gave a cause, an estimate of how many books were lost, or any word on whether the school would close. For parents at Al-Mina, the practical answer from the education administration is that nothing changes — lessons went ahead the same morning, in the opening weeks of a school year this site has been following closely.
