Hurghada Pulls Down Barriers and Chains Outside Seven Businesses on the Tourist Promenade

Barriers and iron chains set up in front of seven tourist facilities on Hurghada's Mamsha promenade have been removed, according to Ahram Gate, which published photographs of the operation on 26 September.

The report gives the location and the number of premises affected and little else. It does not name the businesses, say who put the barriers there, or state whether any fines or other penalties followed.

It is the third clearance of its kind reported on this coast within days. This site reported that Hurghada removed concrete blocks and parking barriers from streets in Hadaba after a complaint posted on Facebook, and that thirteen shops and cafés on the same tourist promenade were sealed over unpaid debts.

For anyone walking the Mamsha, the practical effect is that the frontage of those seven premises is no longer chained or fenced off. The promenade is also on the city's new repaving list, so further work along it can be expected.
