The Red Sea Health Directorate announced on Thursday a limited polio vaccination round in Hurghada city from 25 to 29 October, for children from one day old up to five years of age.

Dr Nermin Nagy, director general of preventive medicine at the directorate, said the round uses the oral Sabin vaccine and that fixed teams will work from four points in the city:

  • the Hurghada health office
  • the port health unit
  • the Al-Ahyaa unit
  • the urban health centre

Mobile teams will also go out to schools and nurseries during the campaign, she said.

Dr Ismail El-Araby, the health ministry's undersecretary in the Red Sea, said the directorate has completed its preparations for the round in the Hurghada health district, and called for efforts to be concentrated on reaching every child in the target age group.

The directorate gives the purpose of the round as strengthening children's immunity and raising immunity across the community. Its announcement does not refer to any detected case, and it does not give opening hours for the four fixed points or a telephone number for parents who want to check where to go.
