Hurghada University Marks a New Graduating Class in the Red Sea

The presidents of Hurghada University and of the institution the report identifies by its acronym, EELU, attended the graduation of a new cohort of students in the Red Sea, according to Bawabat Al-Ahram.

Al-Ahram carried the item on 3 September, with photographs from the ceremony. Its report as carried does not give the number of graduates, the faculties or programmes involved, or the nature of the partnership between the two institutions; nor does it expand the EELU acronym.

Hurghada University is the Red Sea's own public university and a relatively young institution. Before it opened, students from the coast largely left for universities in the Nile Valley and the big cities to take a degree. Each cohort that now finishes in Hurghada is, in a small way, part of the governorate's argument that the coast can train the staff its hospitals, schools, ports and hotels need rather than importing them.

The ceremony also comes at a moment when the university is close to the centre of the governorate's plans. This site has reported that Hurghada University opened applications for student housing for the 2026/2027 year, and that the Higher Education Minister and the Red Sea Governor discussed cooperation on energy, water and visual-identity projects in the governorate.

For families along the coast the significance is the same as at the last cohort: a degree completed without relocating. Because the report gives no graduate numbers and no detail on where this year's leavers are heading, how far that is translating into local jobs remains an open question.
