Eight Egyptian outlets reported that the opening ceremony of the festival's fourth edition in Hurghada paid tribute to the actor Mostafa Khater, one of several names on this year's honours list.

The Hurghada Youth Cinema Festival opened its fourth edition with a ceremony honouring the Egyptian actor Mostafa Khater, according to reports published on Saturday, 29 August by Al-Ahram Gate, Youm7, Al-Masry Al-Youm, Al-Bawaba News, Sada El-Balad, Mobtada, El-Nahar and Tawasol News.

All of those reports place the tribute at the festival's opening gala. El-Nahar described Khater as one name on this edition's list of honourees, which indicates the festival is recognising more than one figure this year — though none of the reports seen published the full list.

Khater is a familiar face to Egyptian television and cinema audiences, and the spread of national coverage the tribute drew is itself worth noting for a festival whose subject is young film-makers rather than established stars.

Hurghada News reported earlier that the fourth edition had announced a programme of 49 films.

The reports did not give a closing date for the festival, name the venues hosting screenings, or say whether screenings are open to the public. For residents, the festival is one of the few large cultural fixtures the city hosts away from the resort strip; for visitors already in Hurghada, the screening schedule is worth asking about locally, because none of the coverage carried one.
