Hurghada's Al-Mina Language School Shut for Two Days as Prosecutors Investigate Book-Store Fire
The Red Sea education directorate has suspended lessons for two days and an Educational Buildings Authority committee will review the school's wiring, while prosecutors investigate Sunday's book-store fire that hundreds of pupils escaped unhurt.

Lessons at the Al-Mina Integrated Experimental Language School in Hurghada are suspended for two days after Sunday morning's fire in a ground-floor book store, and Red Sea security has notified the public prosecutor, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The Red Sea education directorate ordered the closure as a precaution, so that inspectors can finish examining the building before pupils return. A committee from the Educational Buildings Authority has been assigned to review the school's electrical work and check the installations and equipment, confirming that safety requirements are met and that no technical faults remain which could endanger pupils or staff.
Prosecutors have opened an investigation and asked for a formal inspection of the fire site, along with security and technical enquiries into how the blaze started, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported. A report of the incident has been filed with the competent authorities.
Hundreds of pupils, teachers and staff escaped without injury. Alaa Hassan, head of the Hurghada education administration, confirmed there were no casualties among pupils, teachers or staff, and said inspection work began once civil protection crews had finished extinguishing and cooling the site. Atef Nabil, head of the school's board of trustees, said all pupils were sent home after the fire was contained, to reassure parents, before the two-day closure was decided.
The school, on Schools Street in the Mina district of Hurghada, teaches the primary, preparatory and secondary stages. Major General Ahmed Abdullah, the Red Sea security director, followed the response and ordered crews to confirm that no hot spots remained which could reignite, and to secure the school and the area around it.
Hurghada News reported the fire and the evacuation on Sunday. What the sources still do not give is the cause of the fire, the extent of the damage inside the book store, or the date pupils go back — the closure is described only as two days, and damage is still being surveyed.
