Hurghada's 'Art Beach' Nights Bring Alexandria and Matrouh Folk Troupes to the Waterfront

Two more concerts have been staged in Hurghada under the "Shati' Al-Fann" — "Art Beach" — programme, the performance series bringing Egyptian music and folk ensembles to the city's waterfront.

Al-Ahram Gate reported a night featuring the Abu Qir Troupe for Arabic Music together with the children's troupe of Al-Shatby, describing it as a lively artistic evening staged as part of the Art Beach programme in Hurghada. Abu Qir and Al-Shatby are both districts of Alexandria.

Separately, Mobtada reported a concert in the same programme by the Matrouh Folk Arts Troupe. Matrouh is Egypt's north-western coastal governorate, and its folk ensembles perform the Bedouin repertoire of that coast.

The reports do not give the venue, ticket arrangements, or the dates of any remaining nights, and they name no organiser and no end date for the programme.

Open-air concerts of this kind carry more weight in Hurghada than the short listings suggest. Much of the city's live entertainment happens inside hotel compounds and is aimed at package guests; a programme staged on the public waterfront is one of the few settings where Egyptian residents, seasonal workers and visiting tourists sit in the same audience. Touring ensembles from Alexandria and Matrouh also bring repertoires — Arabic orchestral music and Bedouin folk arts — that are rarely performed live on the Red Sea coast.

For residents, it is a sign that the waterfront is being programmed for public cultural use and not only for commerce. For visitors, the practical point is that Hurghada's late-summer evenings carry a cultural programme worth asking about locally — timings will have to be confirmed on the ground, because the published reports carry none.
