Hurghada's Craftsmen Workshops Plot Goes to Planning, and a Site Is Set Aside for a Stray Dog Shelter

Red Sea Governor Walid El-Barqi ordered planning work finished quickly on the land for Hurghada's craftsmen's workshops, on a tour that also took in the wholesale market, a site allocated for a stray dog shelter and three housing sites.

17 October 2026

Red Sea Governor Walid El-Barqi has inspected a series of sites in Hurghada, including the land proposed for the city's craftsmen's workshops, and told officials to finish the planning work on that plot quickly so the project can move ahead and craft activity inside the city can be organised, Sada El-Balad reported.

The tour also covered the wholesale market, the site allocated for a shelter for stray dogs, and several housing sites — among them a project where 20 buildings are under construction, a scheme of 21 buildings, and blocks going up on Stadium Street.

Services alongside the housing

The governor said residents' needs must be taken into account when new urban districts are planned, and that basic services should be delivered in parallel with the housing units themselves. He named schools, health units and post offices first among them.

He was accompanied by the governorate's secretary-general, the head of South Hurghada district, the director of the governor's office, the head of the housing directorate and the urban planning director at the governorate's main offices.

What this adds

The workshops plot is the next step in the governorate's plan, reported here on 14 October, to move craft workshops out of Hurghada's residential blocks.

The report gives no completion dates or costs for any of the sites, and no opening date for the stray dog shelter.
