The British airline and holiday group Jet2 is due to start direct flights from a number of British cities to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh in February 2027, according to Tourism Daily News.
The plan was discussed in London between Dr Ahmed Youssef, chief executive of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, and Jet2 Group's chief executive for airlines and holidays, along with the group's general manager for airports and international organisations and its executive director for airports. The talks covered Egypt's aviation incentive programme and the promotional work behind the new routes, the outlet reported.
The same meetings looked at extending the flights later to Sphinx International Airport, west of Cairo, and to Luxor International Airport.
Youssef was in the United Kingdom to prepare Egypt's participation as a main partner at World Travel Market in London, which opens in early November. He inspected the site of the Egyptian pavilion at ExCeL London, which has been enlarged on last year to hold 110 exhibitors from Egyptian travel companies and hotels, alongside digital screens and promotional advertising. Mohamed Mohsen, who heads the authority's West and South Europe unit, attended the meeting.
While in Britain, Youssef joined a Jet2 destination-partnerships event with representatives of Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro and Malta, which included workshops run by Google, YouTube, Meta and Adobe on using artificial intelligence in tourism marketing.
The report does not say which British cities the Hurghada flights will leave from, how often they will run, what seats will cost, or whether every route starts at the same time in February. For hotels on this coast, a new British carrier arriving at the tail end of winter would add UK capacity on top of the direct links already announced for this season, among them Air Cairo's planned Graz service and the twice-weekly Hurghada–Mombasa flight starting 26 December.
