Marsa Alam Students Pay No Qena University Fees This Year — Tuition, Books and Halls Included

Qena University's council has exempted students from Marsa Alam, Halayeb, Shalateen and Abu Ramad from tuition, the electronic textbook charge and hall-of-residence fees for 2026/2027. The outlets do not say how many students qualify or how to claim it.

6 October 2026

Students from Marsa Alam, Halayeb, Shalateen and Abu Ramad will not pay university fees at Qena University in the 2026/2027 academic year, after a decision by the university council reported by Youm7 and Akhbar El-Youm.

The exemption covers three separate charges: tuition at the university's faculties, the electronic textbook fee, and accommodation and meals in the university halls of residence, across both faculties and institutes.

Qena sits inland across the desert from the southern Red Sea coast, and is one of the universities students from Marsa Alam and the settlements south of it travel to.

The same council meeting approved two further items, according to Youm7:

  • a new fee-paying professional diploma in applied forensic sciences, taught on a credit-hour basis at the Faculty of Science from 2026/2027
  • the award of 12 doctorates and 75 master's degrees to researchers across the university's faculties

Neither outlet says how many students the fee waiver covers, what those fees would otherwise have cost, or what a student has to do to claim it — so families in Marsa Alam will need to ask the university directly before term starts.
