Mercure Hurghada Finishes Its New Lobby and Becomes a Mövenpick at the Start of 2027

Abu Dhabi for Tourism Investments says the first phase of work at the Mercure Hurghada — the arrival area, guest reception and a new lobby — is finished before the Christmas and New Year season, and that the hotel will carry the Mövenpick name from the beginning of 2027.

Abu Dhabi for Tourism Investments says it has finished the first phase of renovation work at the Mercure Hurghada, covering the hotel's arrival area, guest reception and a new lobby, in time for the Christmas and New Year season.

The same work prepares the hotel for a change of brand, the company said: from the start of 2027 it is to operate as a Mövenpick.

Chief executive Yahya Qotb said completing the arrival area and the new lobby is a main step in the renovation plan for the company's Hurghada hotel, ahead of holiday-season guests and the switch to the Mövenpick brand early next year, and that the company is continuing to fund the remaining phases.

What the company says about the wider programme

  • The Hurghada work sits inside an investment programme the company puts at more than 100 million dollars, covering the renovation of its two hotels in Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh — both the work already carried out and the phases still to come.
  • About 80 percent of the renovation of the Mövenpick Sharm el-Sheikh is complete, the company said.
  • Occupancy across the company's hotels is currently above 90 percent, according to the company, which said it expects strong demand over the holidays.
  • Away from this coast, the company said construction continues on the Sofitel Legend Pyramids, on a site opposite the Grand Egyptian Museum.

The announcement does not say when the remaining phases in Hurghada will be finished, whether any part of the hotel closes while they are carried out, or what the change of brand means for bookings already made. The occupancy and investment figures are the company's own.
