New employment contracts have been handed to people with disabilities in Marsa Alam, in Red Sea Governorate, according to Bawabat Al-Ahram.
The report, carried on 3 September, describes the handover of new work contracts to people of determination — the term used in Egyptian official language for people with disabilities — in the Red Sea's southernmost city. It does not say how many contracts were issued, which employers or public bodies are taking the appointees on, what the roles involve, or whether the posts are permanent.
Egyptian law obliges larger workplaces to reserve a share of their posts for people with disabilities, and governorates periodically publicise appointments made under it. In the Red Sea, where formal employment is concentrated in tourism, hotels and the ports, contracts of this kind are one of the few routes into stable work that reach beyond seasonal and family employment.
Marsa Alam is also among the coast's fastest-changing towns. This site has reported Pickalbatros and the UAE's NG9 planning three hotels there in a deal worth $180 million, and the city chief inspecting sewerage works while urging reuse of treated water. Employment schemes are a small part of that picture, but they are the part residents can act on directly.
