November Packages to Hurghada Are Getting Dearer as a Shakira Concert Pulls Demand Into Egypt

Holiday packages to Hurghada are getting more expensive for November, as a surge in demand for Egypt pushes prices up nationwide, Egypt Independent reports.

The outlet, in a translation of Al-Masry Al-Youm, says the spike is being driven by two things: a Shakira concert announced for 28 November at the Giza Pyramids, and continued interest in cultural tourism since the Grand Egyptian Museum opened in full.

European and Russian travel-trade reports cited by the outlet point to a notable rise in the price of travel and accommodation packages around the concert dates. Hotels close to the Pyramids have gone up by as much as 50 percent, and demand for flights into Cairo over the period has risen with them.

Packages to Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh have also gone up for November, the report says — but it gives no figure for the coast, names no hotels or tour operators, and does not say whether the increases fall on flights, rooms or both.

For anyone still to book a November trip to the Red Sea, that is the practical point even without a number: prices for the month are moving, and the reported cause is demand concentrated several hundred kilometres away in Cairo and Giza. The report does not say how long the increases are expected to hold.
