Red Sea Education Orders a Full Inspection of Al-Gawhara Language School After a Surprise Visit Found Pupils Arriving Late

The governorate's undersecretary for education has set up a joint committee to go through every administrative and technical side of Al-Gawhara Official Distinguished Language School, after an unannounced visit recorded poor administrative discipline and marked lateness in pupils' arrival. The school discipline code is to be applied and legal steps taken over anything the inspection proves.

The Red Sea's undersecretary for education, Ashraf El-Araby, has ordered a joint committee to carry out a full inspection of Al-Gawhara Official Distinguished Language School, after an unannounced visit to the school recorded a number of problems with administrative discipline and what he described as a marked lateness in pupils arriving.

The committee is drawn from the governorate's education directorate and the school's own educational administration. It has been told to examine every administrative and technical aspect of the school, identify where it falls short and put that right under the regulations in force, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported on Thursday.

El-Araby made the visit together with Ashraf Farag Allah, who heads the directorate's follow-up and performance evaluation department. He attended the morning assembly and the flag salute and watched the start of the school day before ordering the inspection.

He instructed that the school discipline code be applied and that the necessary legal steps be taken over any violation the inspection proves, saying staff must meet their duties in full, that pupils must attend on time, and that there would be no leniency towards practices that affect teaching or pupils' rights.

The unannounced visits will continue at schools across the Red Sea governorate, El-Araby said, describing field follow-up as one of the tools for keeping the school system in order. Anything inspectors record, he said, will be checked and acted on according to what the follow-up turns up.

What this means for parents

Punctual arrival at the start of the day is the specific point the directorate singled out, so families with children at the school can expect attendance to be watched more closely while the inspection runs. The directorate has not said how long the committee's work will take, and no findings have been published. Al-Masry Al-Youm's report does not say which town the school is in.
