Red Sea Governorate urges caution in wadis as rain is forecast to Monday

The Red Sea Governorate has asked residents to take care during the expected spell of unsettled weather, particularly in mountain areas and wadis, to keep away from flood channels and to follow official announcements and the instructions of the authorities.

Governor Walid El-Borqi is following the weather reports and rainfall forecasts for the governorate's cities after warnings of rain of varying intensity over the southern and central Eastern Desert, including the Red Sea mountain ranges and the towns of Halayeb and Shalatin. The forecasts come from the Water Resources Research Institute's daily report for 24 to 26 October 2026.

The three-day outlook

  • Saturday 24 October: heavy rain over the southern Eastern Desert and the southern Red Sea coasts, especially the Halayeb and Shalatin areas, and over Aswan and Kom Ombo.
  • Sunday 25 October: rain of light to heavy intensity over the south-eastern Eastern Desert and the eastern Red Sea coasts, the Halayeb and Shalatin areas, the southern valley, Lake Nasser, Luxor, Aswan and Kom Ombo, with a chance of light rain over the northern Eastern Desert and South Sinai.
  • Monday 26 October: rain of varying intensity over the southern Eastern Desert, reaching parts of the central desert including the Red Sea mountain ranges, Halayeb and Shalatin, along with the southern valley, Abu Simbel and Aswan.

Satellite images have shown cloud building over the south-east of the country, with low cloud along the Red Sea mountain ranges.

The control centre of the national emergency and public safety network is continuing to monitor the weather.

The outlook names the southern and eastern Red Sea coasts and the mountain ranges rather than the resort towns between Hurghada and Marsa Alam.
