Red Sea Water Company Starts Direct Pumping to Hurghada's Mubarak 11 District, Ahram Reports

The Red Sea Water and Wastewater Company has begun direct pumping to the Mubarak 11 district of Hurghada, according to Ahram Gate, which reported the switch on 9 September and published photographs of the work.

Direct pumping means the neighbourhood is now fed from the company's network under pressure, rather than depending on intermittent supply or delivery by tanker — for a household, the difference between a tap that runs and a tank that has to be topped up.

Mubarak 11 is one of the residential districts on Hurghada's inland side, away from the hotel strip, in the part of the city where population growth has run ahead of the utility network. Water supply across Hurghada tightens every summer: the city has no river or significant groundwater of its own and depends on desalination plants and water piped in from the Nile Valley, so household demand peaks in the hottest months at the same time as hotel occupancy.

The company has been visible on several fronts this year. Hurghada News has reported its warning that it will treat encroachment on the water network as a legal matter, its repair work on the coast's supply lines, and the plan for a solar-powered desalination plant at Marsa Alam designed to produce 10,000 cubic metres a day.

What the report does not give is also worth stating: there is no figure for the number of homes or buildings now connected, no cost, no contractor, and no indication of which district is next in line. The company has not said publicly whether this switch is part of a wider programme across Hurghada.

For residents of the district, the practical test is the next few weeks — whether pressure holds through the evening peak. For visitors, it is a reminder that the water reaching a resort tap on this coast travels a long way to get there.
