Customs officers at Safaga port stopped an attempt to bring in human medicines, medical devices, cosmetics and other goods concealed inside a personal-baggage consignment, the Cairo daily Youm7 reported on 13 October.
The car had arrived from the Saudi port of Duba and was examined after customs inspection and anti-evasion officers reported a suspicion that foreign-made goods were hidden inside it. A committee formed by Safaga Customs found the medicines, cosmetics and medical devices packed among the baggage.
Customs treated the consignment as a breach of Egypt's pharmacy practice law of 1955, the customs law of 2020 and the import and export law of 1975. It put the duties and compensation due at 16.62 million Egyptian pounds — a charge figure, not a market valuation of the goods.
A customs seizure report was filed and the case referred for legal action. No outcome is reported, and the account does not say where the goods were bound. The authority described the check as part of instructions to tighten controls at ports and airports.
