Safaga Port Ships 44,000 Tonnes of Phosphate to India

Safaga Port has shipped 44,000 tonnes of phosphate to India, according to a report by Al-Mal newspaper, corroborated by a separate report from po-news-eg.net.

The shipment adds to a string of large phosphate exports moving through Safaga in recent months. Hurghada News has previously reported the port sending 55,000 tonnes of phosphate to Malaysia, as well as handling a shipment of 1,470 live calves — underlining Safaga's growing role as one of the Red Sea coast's busiest cargo hubs, alongside its passenger ferry service to Saudi Arabia.

Phosphate is one of Egypt's major mineral exports, mined inland in the Red Sea and Nile Valley governorates and shipped out through Safaga and other Red Sea ports to fertiliser and chemical buyers across Asia and beyond.

Neither report named the exporting company, the vessel involved, the value of the shipment, or its departure date.

For Safaga residents, the steady flow of bulk cargo through the port is a reminder that the town's economy runs on more than tourism — shipping traffic, port jobs and cargo revenue that rarely make headlines but matter as much locally as hotel occupancy rates do further down the coast.
