Safaga Port Takes In 31,500 Tonnes of Aluminium and Ships 40,500 Tonnes of Phosphate to Indonesia

Safaga's commercial port handled two large bulk consignments reported on 30 August, according to Al-Ahram Gate, Al-Bawaba News and po-news-eg.net.

The figures given were:

• 31,500 tonnes of aluminium arriving at the port
• 40,500 tonnes of phosphate exported to Indonesia

Al-Ahram Gate reported the same two movements in rounded form — more than 40,000 tonnes of phosphate exported and 31,000 tonnes of aluminium arriving — so the three accounts describe one set of port operations rather than separate events.

Phosphate is a mineral export shipped out of Egypt's Red Sea coast, and Indonesia is the named destination in this case; the aluminium moved in the other direction, as an inbound cargo. The reports do not say which company or plant either consignment was for.

Beyond that, the coverage is thin on detail: no vessel names, no berth or handling times, no value for either cargo in Egyptian pounds or dollars, and no indication of whether these volumes are high, low or ordinary for the port.

For Safaga itself, this is the side of the town that visitors rarely see. The port sits alongside a coastline better known for diving, kitesurfing and beach hotels, and it is the working half of the local economy. Single-day tonnage reports like this one say little on their own; their value is cumulative, as a running indication of how busy the harbour is from month to month.
