South Hurghada district sent inspectors into the Sheraton, Sheri and El Pasha areas on Tuesday evening to check the licences of shops, restaurants and cafés and to clear obstructions from the public road, Sada El-Balad reported.

The campaign was carried out on the directives of Red Sea Governor Walid El-Barki and led by Ayman Sultan, head of South Hurghada district, with the facilities police, the district's shop-licensing department and its encroachments department taking part.

What inspectors checked

  • Whether the licences held by shops, restaurants and cafés are valid and still in force
  • Whether businesses are meeting the legal conditions for the activity they are licensed for
  • Encroachments that block people from using the public road

Sultan said the inspection rounds will continue periodically in different parts of the district, and that legal action will be taken over any violations recorded.

The report gave no number of violations, fines or closures from Tuesday evening's round, and named no individual business.
