South Hurghada district has halted building work being carried out without a licence in the El Hegaz area and confiscated the equipment used on the site, Cairo 24 reported.

The action followed observations by Ayman Sultan, the head of South Hurghada district, who instructed his assistant to stop the work and seize the equipment. The district presented the campaign as part of a wider Red Sea Governorate drive against building violations.

Sultan said field campaigns would continue against unlicensed digging and building, and against encroachments that obstruct people's movement, with legal action against offenders. The district said it keeps up periodic checks across the areas under its authority.

Cairo 24's report gives no date for the stoppage and does not say what was being built at the site.
