Sugar and Rice at EGP 25 a Kilo as the Red Sea Opens 13 Discount Outlets
The governorate has begun the first phase of a national price-cut scheme: 12 basic goods sold through 13 Egyptian Wholesale Trade Company branches, plus three mobile vans serving social housing north of Hurghada.

Red Sea Governor Walid El-Barqi has ordered the governorate's discount-food outlets widened to 13 branches as the first phase of a national price-reduction scheme begins in the province, according to Sada El-Balad and Ahram Gate.
The goods are sold through branches of the Egyptian Wholesale Trade Company in cities across the governorate, the governorate said in a statement on 12 September, timed to the launch of the scheme nationally.
The first phase covers 12 basic items, among them:
- packed sugar — EGP 25 a kilo
- rice — EGP 25 a kilo
- flour — EGP 20 a kilo
- blended oil, 700ml — EGP 50
- pasta, 350g — EGP 9
Tomato paste, tea, white cheese, halawa tahiniya and jam are also included, at the prices announced for the scheme nationally.
Three vehicles have been sent out as mobile sales points to the social housing blocks north of Hurghada, so that people in the most densely populated areas do not have to travel to a fixed outlet, the statement said.
Shazly Ayesh, director of the Red Sea supply directorate, said the goods are available through 13 branches of the Egyptian Wholesale Trade Company across the governorate's cities, and that supplies would be kept flowing. The scheme will widen during September with 18 further items, taking the total to 30, and is to run for six months, from September 2026 to March 2027.
The statement does not say which cities hold the 13 branches, nor when the mobile vans operate, so residents will have to find their nearest outlet locally.
