Nominations to sit on the board of the Marine Sports Club in Hurghada close on Thursday evening, ahead of an election set for 21 November, the Egyptian outlet Sada El-Balad reported.
Three candidates had declared for the chairman's seat by Thursday morning, according to the outlet:
- Alaa El-Tayeh, the club's current chairman
- Hany Hamad, a current member of the board
- Dr Alaa El-Hars
The contest for deputy chairman is no quieter, with four names in so far: Abdel Nasser Nagy, Mubarak Abu Sinna, Hamada Dandarawy and Dr Ahmed Abdel Malek, who heads the Red Sea doctors' syndicate.
For the ordinary board seats, Sada El-Balad reported 13 candidates for the over-age seats and two for the under-age seats. The outlet describes the race as one that sets members of the sitting board against at least one newcomer, with the certified final list of candidates to be published once nominations close.
The report does not say how many seats the board has in total, how large the general assembly is, or where voting will take place on 21 November.
For club members, the hours before Thursday's deadline settle who is actually on the ballot. The club is one of Hurghada's established sporting institutions, and the term of whoever runs it next begins after the November vote.
