Tourism Authority Transfers 375 Feddans of Undeveloped Sahl Hasheesh Land to the Mostaqbal Misr Authority

An official letter signed on Wednesday moves custodianship of about 1.6 square kilometres of unused land inside Egyptian Resorts Company's Sahl Hasheesh project, south of Hurghada, to the state's Mostaqbal Misr development authority.

The Tourism Development Authority has transferred custodianship of a 375-feddan plot at Sahl Hasheesh, south of Hurghada, to the Mostaqbal Misr for Sustainable Development Authority, according to an official letter reported by Al-Masry Al-Youm on Wednesday. The paper said it obtained a copy of the letter, which was signed by the authority's chairman, Eng. Mostafa Abdel Wahab.

The area is about 1.6 square kilometres. It lies among the undeveloped and unused parts of the Egyptian Resorts Company's project at Sahl Hasheesh, and the letter — issued by the office of the authority's chief executive — was addressed to company officials.

The Tourism Development Authority, which sits under the Housing Ministry, asked the company to coordinate with Mostaqbal Misr over the plot, and said the matter would be put before the authority's board at its next meeting. The letter is an administrative step over who holds the land, not an announcement of a project, a buyer or a construction timetable; none of those were given.

Why it matters for Sahl Hasheesh

Sahl Hasheesh already has more than 6,000 hotel rooms, with more than 4,000 further rooms expected to open within months, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported. How the remaining undeveloped land inside the resort is managed, and by which body, shapes what gets built next on one of the coast's main stretches of tourism and property investment.

A separate legal dispute over the resort's third-phase land is still running. The company has previously said two appeals before the Supreme Administrative Court, over the cancellation of the preliminary approval allocating that land, were adjourned to 15 December 2026 pending an expert's report.
