Tourism investment in the Red Sea and Sinai together amounts to one trillion Egyptian pounds, Atef Abdel Latif has said in remarks reported by Oz Arab Media.
In the same remarks, Abdel Latif said Egypt is targeting 30 million tourists — a figure that would be roughly double the country's recent annual arrivals.
The report as carried does not break the trillion-pound figure down between the Red Sea and Sinai, give the period it covers, distinguish committed from completed investment, or attach a target date to the 30-million visitor goal.
The Red Sea coast is the larger share of Egypt's beach tourism capacity, so headline investment and arrivals targets of this kind are the backdrop to what residents here see on the ground — the hotel projects, airport works and road schemes reported week by week. Whether that trillion-pound total translates into anything visible in Hurghada, Marsa Alam or Safaga is not something a single figure can answer.
