A worker died and at least six others were injured on Sunday when a tunnel collapsed at the Sukari gold mine near Marsa Alam, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm and Youm7 (اليوم السابع).
Both outlets initially reported the same toll: one fatality and six injured. Al-Masry Al-Youm later published details on the injured workers' medical condition, without naming them individually.
The El Quseir Public Prosecution opened an investigation into the collapse. In its report on that inquiry, Al-Masry Al-Youm put the number of injured at seven — one more than the figure in the initial reports, a discrepancy the coverage so far does not explain.
None of the source reports named the mine's operator, gave a cause for the collapse, or said whether work at the site has been suspended. Hurghada News will update this story as the investigation produces further detail.
