Youth Ministry's 'Know Your Country' Trips to Hurghada Start at EGP 1,500

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has launched the first group of its "Know Your Country" domestic travel programme to Hurghada, at a fee of EGP 1,500 per participant, Al-Watan reports.

The programme, as its name suggests, organises group trips for young Egyptians to parts of the country outside their own governorate. Al-Watan gives the destination and the price but does not say how long the trip lasts, how many young people travelled in this first group, which governorates they came from, what the fee covers, or when subsequent groups are due.

Hurghada is a standard destination for state-organised youth travel: it is reachable overland from the Nile Valley and Cairo, and it has the hotel capacity to take groups at short notice. September also falls outside the peak European booking season, when domestic custom is worth more to hotels, cafés and boat operators than it is in midwinter.

For residents working in tourism, ministry group trips are a modest but reliable slice of demand that does not depend on charter schedules or foreign exchange rates. For visitors already on the coast, the practical effect is more Egyptian faces on the beaches and excursion boats in the coming weeks.

What the announcement does not settle is scale. A single group at EGP 1,500 a head is a pilot-sized number until the ministry says how many more will follow, and Al-Watan's report stops short of that.
