Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh?
Two different coasts with two different characters — and one practical difference at the border that catches people out.
We cover the Red Sea mainland coast, not Sinai, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend to be neutral. What follows is our honest read of a question readers ask constantly.
Hurghada sits on the African mainland; Sharm El Sheikh is across the Gulf of Suez on the Sinai peninsula. They are both Egyptian Red Sea resorts and they feel meaningfully different.

You are on the right landmass. From Sharm, adding the Nile valley means another flight.

Ras Mohammed and Tiran are extraordinary and close to shore. Hurghada answers with the wrecks, which is a real answer — but on reefs alone, Sinai wins.

The road to Luxor is the whole argument. From Sharm the same day needs a flight, which changes both the cost and the shape of it.
Travel advice for Sinai is not the same as for the mainland: several governments advise against travel to North Sinai and to parts of South Sinai by road, while generally excepting the Sharm resort area reached by air.
