Liveaboard or land-based diving?
The real question for anyone booking a diving week in Egypt: four dives a day and the sites nobody else can reach, or a hotel, a bed that does not move, and the ability to change your mind.
Egypt is one of the few places where both options are genuinely excellent, which is why the choice is hard. A liveaboard reaches sites a day boat physically cannot; a resort lets you dive hard for three days and lie down on the fourth.
This is not about which is better diving. It is about what a week of it does to you.

So which one?
A first Red Sea diving trip
Land-based
Build the dive count, see whether you actually want four dives a day, and keep the option of a rest day. The offshore sites will still be there next year.
Experienced divers who want sharks
Liveaboard
The Brothers and Daedalus cannot be reached any other way, and that is where the hammerheads and threshers are. No amount of land-based diving substitutes.
Travelling with a non-diving partner
Land-based
A liveaboard with one bored person on it is a long week for both of you. Marsa Alam or Hurghada gives them a holiday too.
Anyone who gets seasick
Land-based
More diving weeks are ruined by seasickness than by anything underwater, and on an offshore itinerary there is nowhere to go. Be honest with yourself about this one.
Maximum diving for the money
Liveaboard
Around 18–20 dives against 10–12, with no daily transfers. Per dive it usually works out cheaper despite the bigger upfront number.
Wanting to see Luxor as well
Land-based
You cannot get off a boat. If the trip is diving plus Egypt, it has to be land-based.
A common and sensible compromise: a few land-based days either side of a shorter liveaboard, which most southern operators can arrange. It also gives you a buffer if the boat comes back early for weather.
