New Break Hits Karimat Water Line Feeding Hurghada, Repair Crews Dispatched

A new break has struck the Karimat water line, the main pipeline feeding Hurghada, this time south of Ras Shukeir, according to Youm7 and Al-Masry Al-Youm. The Red Sea Water Company dispatched maintenance crews to the site, the outlets reported Monday.

Neither outlet detailed what caused the break, how many households or districts will lose supply, or how long repairs are expected to take.

The Karimat line has been a repeated point of failure this summer. Hurghada News has reported on water supply strain across the Red Sea coast, with some neighborhoods going without piped water for six to ten days at a stretch, and on a Hurghada–Ras Ghareb shortage that dragged into a third week and pushed residents to demand a government fix. A new desalination plant is also under construction north of Hurghada, intended to add 10,000 cubic meters a day to the network once complete.

For residents already coping with supply gaps, a fresh break on the same feeder line raises the question of whether the disruption will spread beyond the areas already affected. Until the water company confirms a repair timeline, there is no way to say when — or where — service will be restored.
