Hurghada International Airport handled about 2,131,400 passengers in August and September 2026 — more than any other Egyptian regional airport — according to Ministry of Civil Aviation figures reported by Masrawy and the trade outlet Tourism Daily News.
That is up from 2,008,847 passengers in the same two months last year, an increase of 122,553 or 6.1%.
Egypt's regional and tourist airports together handled 5,110,629 passengers across the two months, against 4,875,411 a year earlier — a rise of 235,218, or 4.8%. Among the airports in the data:
- Hurghada: 2,131,400 passengers, up 6.1%
- Sharm el-Sheikh: 1,638,499 passengers, up 6.2%
- Sohag and Asyut combined: 222,445 passengers, up 18.6%
- El Alamein: 99,921 passengers, up 29.1% — the fastest growth of those listed
- Port Said up 67%, Marsa Matrouh up 2.3%, Alexandria up 0.1%
Marsa Alam airport does not appear in the figures as reported, so there is no comparable number for the southern end of this coast.
Civil Aviation Minister Dr Sameh El-Hefny said the ministry is continuing to develop airport infrastructure and capacity while expanding air links and opening new markets, Tourism Daily News reported. The pilot Wael El-Nashar told the same outlet that the differences in growth between airports reflect the nature of operations and the level of demand at each destination.
Tourism Daily News notes that the published data contains no specific rise or fall in air fares, and that actual ticket prices depend on seasonal demand, fuel and operating costs and airline policy. These are passenger counts, not prices — but they are the clearest measure yet of how busy the two months running into this winter season actually were.
